SLO County Board of Supervisors rejects resolution supporting Israel

The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday rejected a resolution to show support for Israel and against the Hamas attack that killed more than 1,400 people, with supervisors Jimmy Paulding, Bruce Gibson and Dawn Ortiz-Legg dissenting.

Chair John Peschong asked the board to make a resolution supporting Israel. Arnold seconded the motion that asked staff to bring the resolution back for approval.

Supervisor Paulding argued against the proposed resolution noting the situation is fluid and that a resolution may not be timely in two weeks. Instead of a resolution, Paulding suggested each supervisor write their own statement which staff could post on the county website.

Arnold said they could do both.

“We can all make statements on the website, but I am in favor of a resolution in favor of Israel,” Arnold said.

Ortiz-Legg voiced concerns that a resolution could be misconstrued and potentially inflame tensions. The board voted 3-2 against a resolution supporting Israel.

Paulding then made a motion to have staff post each supervisor’s statements on the county website. The board voted 5-0 in support of Paulding’s motion.

Meaningless resolutions from a body not empowered to do anything the crisis are a waste of time and tax dollars. Why is this even being debated? Focus on Supervisor stuff and SLO county.

Nice distraction from the fact that they screwed up the Paso Groundwater ordinance amongst other things. Why don’t they do some real work like fixing the Planning and Building departments. SLO county is at the bottom of every performance list on housing.

because they condemned the two bozos on the bridge but they will not condemn Hama, pro Hamas sentiments expressed in SLO, antisemitic literature being passed. Jimmy, Dawn and Gibby are obviously owned by antisemitic progressives in this county. They are actually as bad or worse than the white supremacists they condemned because they did not take a clear and unequivocal stand on Israel and Hamas. Remember the Muslims were conquerors, occupiers and from I read left Israel voluntarily. They are occupying land that belongs to Israel and by their own logic should not be there in the first place. Those three are disgusting.

Funny how Jimmy was the first person to condemn the Jan. 6 “act of terrorism” on his website, yet turns his back on the Jewish people. I didn’t realize Bruce, Dawn, and Jimmy’s hatred of Israel and the Jewish people ran this deep.

A lethal attack on our own government is a bit more relevant to our government than the back and forth hostilities of a country on the other side of the world where both “sides” have been equally culpable for the inhumane behavior of centuries of fighting. What do you feel you gain by accusing people of “hating” for simply declining to take sides?

It is sad to learn that our Board of Supervisor’s will not support Israel after a brutal attack by Hamas from Gaza. The level of disfunction needs to be replaced by people who can work together for our benefit, not their own political agenda. As I understand it they simply passed on taking sides in a conflict on the other side of the world that is of no connection to the business of our Board. Do you really want them sitting around arguing points on international affairs on our dime instead of addressing the business they were hired to address?

Americans were killed, innocent bystanders and even some Pro Palestinian people. Israel is our ally and the worst mass slaughter of innocent Jews since the Holocaust is everyone’s business. Have you learned nothing about WW2? As a resident of Templeton I am furious they had to pass a resolution about those worthless people on the bridge but when you have pro Hamas sentiment here, antisemitic literature pass around and real horrible action by terrorists in the Middle East you can’t get a resolution. The progressive board members are as inhumane, insensitive and insensitive as it gets. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.
