Update: Representatives of Equinor said the current pause of the offshore wind farm was not impacted by President-elect Donald Trump’s election. Calls prior to publication of the article were not returned.

Original: Energy giant Equinor paused its plan to build an offshore wind farm off the coast of Morro Bay following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.

The Norwegian-based primarily oil and gas corporation plans to continue fulfilling its local lease conditions while suspending some operations for the next two to three years, according to communications from company representatives to Central Coast fisherman. Equinor recently canceled wind energy projects in Vietnam, Spain and Portugal.

In 2022, the federal government auctioned off three offshore wind energy sites located between 20 and 30 miles off the coast near Morro Bay. Then in Dec. 2023, the state issued Equinor a permit allowing survey work to begin.

Even though the California Coastal Commission determined that site survey activities would not affect fish and other marine species, local fishermen reported catch numbers down 67% to 70% while Equinor did sonar work off the coast earlier this year. Fisherman groups have filed several legal challenges against the international energy conglomerate.

Trump has vowed to end offshore wind energy projects his first day in office.

Trump ran on lowering housing and energy costs. During his campaign speeches, he described offshore wind energy as “the most expensive energy there is.” He noted environmental concerns such as whale and bird deaths.

“We are going to make sure that that ends on day one,” Trump said during a campaign speech. “I’m going to write it out in an executive order. It’s going to end on day one.”

Tired of winning ……….? Not . Natural Gas powered Combined Cycle plant’s (65% efficient) is the most cost effective way to moderate the growing instability of the Electrical GRID. Sense wind/solar have been shoved down our throat’s via CPUC rates / Government roof solar subsidies, The grid’s supply / demand is now in a ” Duck Curve ” situation ( Look it up) Remember when electricity was a flat rate? The backdoor deal was Smart meters! Time of use. NEM 1.0 NEM 2.0 NEM 3.0 .

Soylent Green Energy. Yes…. We are the ones being eaten.

I have to say this made my day!!!

Why choose a power source that requires the highest subsidies and place it in the depths of the ocean?

Trump or not, time for common sense to return and the windmills – part of the so called, evil fossil fuel industry’s portfolio- are not part of that equation.

The offshore windmill farm concept in front of us is the result of an environmental movement that has sleepwalked right into the biggest corporate/ government scam in history. Propagandized and lullabied into believing the slow motion siren song of corporate profiteers.

The cold light of reason shows us this isn’t good for the ocean, ratepayers or neighbors. Let alone not move the needle at all on the so called ‘Climate Crisis’ that has been Sooo oversold as to be comical.

Heaven help the true believer Climate Doomers when all the other variables and data come to light to reveal that there is no crisis.

If they really cared about carbon and climate , they would do more to work on reducing heavy pollution in the developing world. Not building vanity projects to please a class of pragmatically challenged elites here in New Rome.

What a perfect response. Thank you.

Who is “THEY”? It looks like they DO care. Just because it differs from YOUR concept, we need to get off of fossil fuels.
