Tribune shows bias in latest hit piece targeting Dan Dow

District Attorney Dan Dow

OPINION by JODY LANGFORD

As a longtime resident of San Luis Obispo County and a retired law enforcement officer, I am compelled to address the recent editorial written by Tribune staff and published in the Sacramento Bee and San Luis Obispo Tribune criticizing District Attorney Dan Dow. This hit piece lambasts Dow for reposting two social media items on X that critiqued New York City mayor-elect Mamdani.

The social media posts suggested that New Yorkers may have forgotten the lessons of 9/11. While the editorial rips Dow as hateful, divisive, and unprofessional, I say it is a stand for truth, remembrance, and free speech.

Here are the facts: DA Dow is a dedicated public servant with a proven track record of upholding justice in our county.

He shared posts that highlighted concerns about Mamdani’s past statements and affiliations, including his criticism of law enforcement and his anti-Israel sentiments. One repost specifically noted that electing such a figure in a city scarred by 9/11 displays troubling forgetfulness.

It does not mean that Mamdani himself had anything to do with 9/11 as the editorial ridiculously insinuated Dow meant. It just means that people with similar beliefs perpetrated the attack. They accuse Dow of being inflammatory but I wonder what is wrong with reminding citizens of historical tragedies when current events dictate it?

The editorial staff who wrote the opinion seem more intent on policing speech than examining substance. They accuse Dow of being partisan in his role as DA, but forget that he has First Amendment rights outside of his official duties.

This is not the first time Dow has been attacked for personal beliefs, yet they have failed to produce one instance where his personal beliefs have interfered with his prosecutions! He has always been about truth and justice.

Dow’s reposts were on his personal account and not an official proclamation. They align with his conservative views and prioritize national security and respect for law enforcement.

His views resonate here in San Luis Obispo County where he has prosecuted criminals with the truth being his guide and has been an advocate for victims. To castigate him for echoing widespread sentiments about 9/11 is selective outrage.

Dow seems to be fostering reflection, not hatred of Muslims. He appears to be cautioning us about people with the beliefs and track record such as Mamdani’s. The editorial goes overboard trying to frame legitimate concerns as bigotry. Mamdani’s election is New York City’s problem, but its implications regarding public safety and terrorism affect all of us.

The editorial is just another example of media bias against public figures who dare challenge progressive narratives. The Tribune and Bee are prioritizing political correctness over genuine discourse and, by doing so, are stoking controversy. Dow is not inciting violence or breaking any laws. He is merely exercising the most important freedom we have, the freedom of speech

I stand with Dow because his reposts are meant to make us accountable and not forget history. This makes him a true leader, someone we are very fortunate to have in his position.

We need to reject the editorial writers rush to judgement and open our minds to the wisdom being displayed by Dow. We deserve leaders like Dow who speak up without apology.

So the “truth” is that all Muslims are awful and want to kill everyone who isn’t Muslim? And a public official is allowed to show blatant racism and bias when his job is to seek justice in the courts, justice which is supposedly blind?

Look, Dan Dow can say whatever he likes within the confines of “free speech”, but when his speech provides an indication of his bias and inability to do his job objectively, that is the problem. If it was some random person named Don Dow, nobody would be talking about this.

This is the problem with MAGA. Y’all normalized blatant racism.

I had to chuckle at this articles headline… I’m sure glad CCN never print bias reporting : )

There is no such thing as a “personal account” for a public official.

As someone who has chewed on the same Iraqi dust as COL Dow, I can unequivocally state, that islam is a violent political cult, disguised as a religion, that has stated the full intention to destroy western civilization.

Based on your limited experience in a war zone, the people you fought against were Islamic so you can guarantee all Islamic people are violent? Somebody didn’t complete their undergrad critical thinking prerequisites.

They voted for Trump and continue to support a pathological liar…

Yes. I can. I have read their instruction manual, the Quran.

“The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” – Ronald Reagan

I totally agree. It’s getting very apparent that this woke garbage about inclusion and diversity only counts when those touting such drivel agree with you. It’s becoming more obvious that our country and our freedom is being destroyed by those who care more about politics and gaining power and riches than upholding our once great nation. Dan Dow has been a great example of what a DA should be.

The hypocrisy and self-delusion in this comment are hilariously apparent. Trump can tear down the White House, grift billions of dollars, take planes from former enemies, literally steal the resolute desk and put it in Mal-a-Largo, start trade wars, arrest U.S. citizens and detain them without due process or habeas corpus, continue to try to hide the fact that his is a raging pedo, but if a Republican shows racism toward other religions that is all it takes for you to be on their side.

The Tribune Editorial Board lost ALL credibility when it endorsed Adam Hill in the last election he ran in, just shortly before the FBI raided his office! They must have done absolutely ZERO investigative journalism before coming out with that last glowing endorsement when CCN was not only reporting on Adam’s alleged corruption but could also likely “smell” an imminent raid by the Feds. The Trib was left with egg on its face. So why would anyone in this community fall for their cheap shots at DA Dan Dow? Need I remind them that he is so popular around here, he ran unopposed in his last election???? Hopefully the last remaining readers of the Trib will wake up and cancel their subscription over this so we don’t have to hear their screeching anymore!

LOL! You said “journalism” and “The Tribune” at the same time! HAHahahahahaaa!

Dan Dow was right.

The US is beginning to go down the path of “Empathetic Suicide” which has already passed the point of no return in the UK and other European countries.

Yes, everyone knows that Europe is terrible and everyone there hates their lives. 9 of the top 10 happiest countries in the world are in Europe (Australia being the exception at number 9), but they clearly don’t have your insight. When was the last time you were in Europe? Please tell me about your experiences there.

At least 18 of you bothered to downvote, but not one gives an argument against what I said or tried to debunk me. Typical. Do you come to this site just for confirmation bias purposes?

100% agree with  JODY LANGFORD.

100% disagree with you.
