The incumbent District 3 San Luis Obispo County supervisor is expected to be a no-show at the year’s first debate between candidates seeking a seat on the board of supervisors. Supervisor Adam Hill says the person sponsoring the debate is excessively partisan and makes personal attacks.

Integrity SLO, a political committee run by San Luis Obispo activist Kevin Rice, is hosting a Lincoln-Douglas-style debate in which there will be no moderator. In its 460 filing, Integrity SLO says it opposes Adam Hill for Supervisor 2012.

The debate is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Avila Beach Community Center.

Each of the three candidates in the District 3 race is invited to participate. The candidates are Hill, San Luis Obispo Councilman Dan Carpenter and former Grover Beach Mayor Debbie Peterson.

Both Carpenter and Peterson are expected to attend the debate.

Hill’s campaign issued a press release to favored media saying the supervisor would not attend. Neither Rice, nor CalCoastNews received the statement.

“While Supervisor Adam Hill enjoys a robust discussion about the issues, the “free for all” format combined with excessive partisanship and personal attacks demonstrated by Mr. Rice in the past aren’t conducive to creating an environment in which a meaningful discussion can be had,” Hill’s campaign stated.

The news release also said Hill’s campaign strives to keep the election focused on issues and accomplishments, not “unsubstantiated smears and gotcha moments rigged by opponents.”

Rice stated Hill has not formally declined to attend the debate.

“A false rumor alleges one candidate has formally declined to appear,” the Integrity SLO website states. “Integrity SLO has received no such communication and is confident all three candidates desire to meet the public.”

Doors will open Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Avila Beach Community Center is located at 191 San Miguel Street.

Adam, a real man will be honest no matter how painful the truth is. A coward hides behind lies and deceit…as you have done and are doing. Sad.

As Adam Hill viciously attacks both opponents, he refuses to sit and debate. Unfathomable cowardice.

Ya don’t suppose this might have something to do with it? “In its 460 filing, Integrity SLO says it opposes Adam Hill for Supervisor 2012.” Would you go “debate” with your sworn enemy on enemy’s turf? Is it even a debate, or is it an invite to a lynching? Guess we’ll never know since he’s not going.

Adam will just wait for the Trib to set a debate since the Trib has endorsed him previously.

Sworn enemies? Enemy’s turf? Avila Beach is Adam’s “turf.” Avila Beach community center is Adam’s turf. They love him there. Why would Adam go to a civil debate regarding his and the county’s future? Why wouldn’t he? That’s the question.

“Enemy’s turf.” That’s gang talk. And it fits.

Merriam-Webster definition of gang:

1. A group of criminals.

Yet another case of Adam (the pot) calling the kettle (Kevin Rice or anyone else who dares oppose him or his lady Dee) black.

“Supervisor Adam Hill enjoys a robust discussion about the issues.”

haaaaa! What a joke of a press release from the Lil’ Bully’s campaign.

Grow up, Adam!!

Kevin Rice will be on News/Talk 920 KVEC today (Wednesday) at 3:05 ro discuss the debate and the Third District supervisor race.

We’ll ask the question, If the election were held today, who would you vote for: Adam Hill, Dan Carpenter, or Debbie Peterson?

Has Adam ever been on Hometown Radio? I doubt it would ever happen. Adam just doesn’t seem like the type of guy who would engage in a serious interview; he only wants softball questions from adoring fans.

As for the vote–Carpenter seems honest, non-slimy, and approachable. But whether it’s Peterson or Carpenter, the rule is A B A.

Anyone

But

Adam

Supervisor Hill made his last appearance on my show in May 2012. It did not go well. He accused me of trying to ambush him and he lectured me after the show on my questions.

I had spent the opening segment focused on general issues. The second segment went more to his personality. I don’t know how one can interview Adam Hill without discussing his prickly personality, but he didn’t appreciate it.

Let’s hope he agrees to appear in some type of forum down the road.

Wacko Hill is welcome on KVEC

Velie is not.

Makes no sense to an average listener.

Sounds fishy. ‘Team Adam Hill Developer’ advertisement $?

Hmmm…all the way back in 2012? DARN I only see podcasts back to 2014 on KVEC website. I’d pay $$ to hear that interview!

And I love the “It did not go well” part of your reply, Dave. :) I bet that’s an understatement!

Kevin Rice doesn’t live in the Third District, so why should we let him take the lead in a district where he doesn’t live? Any answer Dave? Why Kevin?

Coward!

He knows he is unable to keep is mouth in check, and will say things stupid and irrational. Seems like a good political move to hide out.

I am no fan of Adam Hill or Bruce Gibson. I am a very old New Left (but gun owning) liberal from Berkeley in the 60’s so i resent the implication that people opposed to these two clowns are right-wingnuts. I would not blame Hill for not attending this gathering. It is not a Lincoln-Douglas style debate, this is a venue intended to push Hill into a corner, and with Kevin Rice leading the charge its not very subtle. Personally I think Hill ought to be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail but it would be just pure self-abuse for him to show up. Organize a legitimate debate with a format (ala league of womens voters) and then we can attack him when he backs out of that one. I doubt he will ever show up for any debate but he gets a pass on this one in my opinion

he doesnt have to worry about Kevin Rice only, include all the other people with a brain as well.

Josey, “brain” has not much really to do with it. What so many SLO County citizens [and hopefully a large percentage of District 3 voters] have that Adam lacks are real values, consciences, and the ability to understand right from wrong…and choose RIGHT.

LWV events are forums, not debates. They are moderated and questions are screened. Personally, I like the concept of the non-moderated debate where candidates can say what they wish. Neither Rice nor anyone else control anything. I’d also be interested in seeing a town hall meeting style event such as the one in Iowa a few nights ago.

I complete agree. Adam Hill is an awful supervisor and should absolutely be voted out of office, but having someone like Rice’s organization (which has the stated purpose of removing him from office) organizing the debate just makes it way too easy for Hill to have a good reason to back out. To me, Rice and Hill are like two sides of the same coin, both are nutcases from opposite sides of the political spectrum who are high on drama and prone to dirty tricks and I would not like to see either of them in any sort of public office.

I’m not sure what to expect but I’m going to satisfy myself. If it’s rigged I’ll be disappointed. If Kevin Rice produces what he says Adam will have made a mistake not to have availed himself of the opportunity. Should know which tomorrow night. Maybe those with doubts sould check it out for themselves, too.

Bully one moment, cry baby the next.

Please, District 3, vote this guy out of office.

But if he’s gone, who will we have to kick around every day? He makes a great target for all.

Not to worry, plenty more to choose from.

Still much work to be done.

Must be the season for politicians ducking out of public debates. Yesterday it was Trump; today, Hill. Trump fears Megyn Kelly and Hill fears Kevin Rice. But in this instance I don’t see much for Hill to fear given that this event is unmoderated and there’s nothing Rice could do to trip him up.

he has to fear the public’s unmitigated ability to ask questions….
