As part of the “Dangerous Faggot Tour,” openly gay man and prominent conservative activist Milo Yiannopoulos is due to speak before a packed-house at Cal Poly’s Spanos Theater on Jan. 31. Cal Poly’s Queer Student Union is trying to shut down the event in advance and is threatening to sabotage the speaking engagement if it does occur.

Yiannopoulos, a vocal critic of political correctness, is a public speaker and the technology editor of conservative news website Breitbart. Born in the United Kingdom, Yiannopoulos appeared regularly in British media prior to founding an online publication about technology and later joining Breitbart.

The conservative activist frequently speaks on college campuses, and his speeches often trigger protests.

Earlier this year, Yiannopolous was permanently banned from Twitter. The social media company claimed he incited or engaged in targeted abuse or harassment.

Yiannopolous alleges major social media companies team up with governments to censor conservative content.

Cal Poly’s Queer Student Union is currently petitioning university President Jeffrey Armstrong to cancel the upcoming event. The Queer Student Union’s Facebook page contains the text of a letter that the student group is encouraging its members to email to Armstrong.

The letter states Yiannopoulos is a huge critic of feminism, overweight people and liberals, and it lists inflammatory Breitbart headlines he has authored.

“I am well aware of his First Amendment right to say whatever he pleases, but you can be rest assured that peaceful protesters will be present both outside the event, as well as inside the venue. They have already been instructed on how to receive tickets and go incognito into the event to disrupt from the inside and to make the speaker ‘unwelcome.’ I am not claiming responsibility for this, simply informing you of the reality of the situation.

“I thank you for your consideration and urge you again to rethink hosting Mr. Yiannopoulos. The title of his tour including the word ‘dangerous’ is not for show.”

On Jan. 31, Yiannopoulos is scheduled to speak at Spanos Theater from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The general public is invited and tickets can be reserved online. However, reserving a ticket does not guarantee entry to the event, and attendees are encourage to arrive early, as it is expected some people will have to be turned away. Entry is free of charge.

Well, sadly, i happen to be white. Also, he said it, the Trumpy Frumpy: Burning flags should be punishable by loss of citizenship or a year in jail; consequences. Talk about loosing rights to protest and or speak ones mind and freedom of expression!!! sigh. Talk bout big government.

Well, sadly, i happen to be white.

Huh? You’re sad about that?

“White guilt” you know for all the horrible things white people have done through out history. The world lived in peace and harmony until us whiteys showed up.

Is there going to a physicist who will give public presentation at Cal Poly or has “sex sells” become higher education? I sense an intentional divisiveness to undermine this school’s conservative and academic legacy.

I constantly hear that colleges full of liberals, blah, blah, blah. I don’t know. Maybe they are. But, I will tell you first hand that calpoly is nothing more than a giant business. It’s run like any cut-throat stereotypical CEO would run a business. The admin extracts money from students in creative ways, grows class sizes, accepts an insane number of non-resident students, replaces full-time professors with part-time lecturers, jacks the price of everything on campus, etc. The point being is that the place is run by far right-wing conservatives, who are primarily white males. What influence/power the so-called liberal professors have is overshadowed by the conservative leadership of the campus.

And calpoly’s leaders are hypocrites. I keep having to take their BS harassment training courses. How long would I last at calpoly if I started using the word “faggot” in classes and in meetings? Yet calpoly allows someone to speak on campus who advertises himself with the word? Where are the people who came down so hard on the greeks who had the “nava-hoes” party? Hypocrites.

Regarding “having to take their BS harassment training courses,” I have bad news for you. It’s just a taste of what’s to come after you graduate. When I completed my training 20 years ago, none of that existed. Fast forward to last year: I was required to take an employer mandated harassment and discrimination prevention module, a state mandated harassment and discrimination module, cultural sensitivity training module, “Language of Caring” module, and numerous educational modules. Added together, they amount to 30-40 hours of UNCOMPENSATED training. You will learn that, as an employee, the worst offense you can commit is to offend somebody.

The training itself is not too bad, as it keeps getting shorter through the years. The problem that only people in “protected classes” have the protections stated in the training. The same exact treatment is labeled “harassment” if it happens to people in protected classes, or “unprofessional behavior” if it happens to anyone else. Why can’t all people have the same protections. The fact is that calpoly is afraid of being sued; they don’t care about how anyone is treated so long as they can avoid litigation.

@billygatez – you’re a racist!

nuh uh

Liberals claim to own the corner market on tolerance and free speech, until it doesn’t follow their definition or belief. Then, all hell breaks loose. They get loud to stifle, shut down or drown out those who aren’t in line with their belief. CELEBRATE DIVERISTY, they say, EMBRACE they say, INCLUSION, they say. FREE THINKERS, they say.

I know, let’s invite Dinesh D’Souza for a speech and see just how they embrace, celebrate and embrace free thought and different opinions. These actions are exactly what Alinsky preaches in his Rules for Radicals.

“5.“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating.”

13.“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

And to that I say, go and listen, or stay home and tune in 90.1 FM.

Should be a great show. Plus it is a two for one show. First we get to see and hear Milo practicing his first amendment right with some wonderful thoughts, and a few that are a little wacky. But second we will get to see and hear those who wish to remove his right to free speech because they only want speech that they agree with. I am planning on attending with my three adult kids. Can’t wait to exercise our first amendment rights.

“Cal Poly’s Queer Student Union”

^^^Really?

Interfering with someone Else’s speech is not “Freedom of Speech”, it’s just rudeness. Protest outside all you want, don’t go in to the venue and disrupt the speaker and the people who went there to listen. Some people just have no class at all.

Lol, you are defending Milo Yiannopoulos? He would interfere with your free speech without hesitation.

He wants protesters and the noise, it feeds his ego.

I would defend anyone’s Constitutional Rights, even if I don’t agree with them and even if they wouldn’t defend my rights. I would do it because it is the right thing to do.

LOL. The guy’s a Brit. He has no constitutional rights. Trump should hurry up and lock the border gates to keep this sort of trash out of our great nation.

Must make you libs heads about explode trying to wrap it around the thought that someone could be gay and conservative. OMG what is the world coming to!?

You must not know many gay people, plenty are conservative.

You should get out more.

All the complaining has assured a bigger audience. Noise makers never seem to get that. [“What if there was to be a war and nobody came.”]

The story says there’s a full house in Spanos Theater. Can’t get a bigger audience if it’s already full and there are four walls around the place. Oh, Spanos holds about 400 people. Not surprising there are that many who want to see this trashertainment.

EXACTLY! those who appreciate this type of humor and commentary should be allowed to attend and enjoy. those who don’t….shouldn’t attend..period.

What is happening to our fundamental rights granted by the constitution?

How would the Queer Student Union react if the community reacted the same way regarding a gay pride event? They would be outraged…OH, the hypocrisy.
